When it was time for Josh Khoury, Founder of Ocean Blue Custom Homes, to build his own home, he wanted us to find the best windows and doors that fit his home’s style and purpose.
His challenge was two-fold: create a mid-century modern home with materials uncommon in South Florida and blend the indoors and outdoors while maintaining privacy.
A Bold and Dynamic Look
“I wanted a home with forward-thinking, futuristic details,” Khoury said. “I kept it natural, warm, and edgy but added elements of nature.”
Khoury used Corten steel, knowing it is uncommon in Florida. “It’s the hardest material I’ve used, but I wanted something that isn’t used often,” Khoury said. You can see accent walls and doors made from steel throughout the home.
Privacy With a View
As you approach the property, the first thing that jumps out is the blend of natural and manufactured elements. Unlike many homes, Khoury didn’t include windows on the front of the house to create his private oasis. “You can’t see the inside from the street, and you can’t see the street from the inside,” Khoury said.
To enter the property, you walk through a Corten steel door that opens into a courtyard with entertaining spaces. Then, walk past a long wall of storefront windows and open a glass pivot door to step inside the home.
Bringing the Outdoors In–and the Indoors Out
“I wanted the outside courtyard to be the center of the home. That’s why I put most of the windows and doors inside the property.” Khoury used large sliding glass doors and storefront windows to blend the indoor and outdoor spaces.
“The storefront windows make the space feel so light and airy that it feels like you are outside,” Khoury said.
